August Athlete of the Month

Tim Vining

There’s nothing we love more than seeing our members thrive and hit their fitness goals. This month, we turned to Tim Vining as our athlete of the month. Between his focus on his business ventures and family, Tim has every reason to make excuses to not show up and put in the work both in the gym and in the kitchen - yet he’s lost over 50 pounds recently by putting in the work with his trainer. We’re incredibly proud of you hitting your weight loss goals and can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next at the gym.

Congratulations, Tim!

Tell us about yourself.

I was born in Georgia, but I have lived in several states in the eastern United States and landed in Florida nearly 40 years ago when my parents relocated from Ohio.    My wife Tina’s family also moved from the same town in Ohio to the same town in Florida that same summer.  Tina and I have known each other for 39 years and have been married for 27 years.  She is the love of my life and an active member of Fit Crew.  We have two sons, Adam & Ryan who are grown and doing well.   I am a Principal and Chief Development Officer for MVP Holdings in Tampa.  We have a Real Estate Development company of which I am the CEO/President. We have active development projects throughout the Southeast United States, we have a Private Equity Division and Restaurant Group led by my partners; Outback Founder Bob Basham and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFO Nick Reader.  Our restaurants include the fast casual chicken restaurant PDQ with 66 locations across 11 states and Glory Days Grille with 47 locations in 6 states. Growing up I played football, baseball and wrestled in high school and college.  I still love sports of all kinds but do more spectating these days vs. actually participating.

How did you get started at Fit Crew?

My wife Tina has been working out there for 9 years.  She finally talked me into trying it.

What has been your proudest athletic moment?

Although I grew up playing sports through college and had lots of success, I am really proud of losing over 50 lbs and what I can do physically and athletically now.   I am able to do things with my body weight and in weight training that I didn’t think was possible for me.

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?

My favorite movement is probably pushing the weighted sled or swinging sledgehammers.

Least favorite is a tie between burpees and box jumps.

What do you think makes Fit Crew different from other gyms that you’ve tried in the past

There really is no comparison between Fit Crew and the other gyms I have been around.  The group classes are full of unique exercises and movements and are designed to be fun and competitive but work for all levels of fitness.  Even as a beginner, I felt like I could jump right in because the movements can be modified as needed and you go at your own pace. The personal training is designed to be something different every time you come in and the results are amazing.

What do you like to do when you’re not training at Fit Crew?

When I am not training at Fit Crew, I like to travel with family, scuba dive, ski, big game hunt all over the world, enjoy outstanding wine and work hard.

Tell us a fun fact that we might not already know about you.

I like to drive fast cars really fast!!
